Crystal Palace fans have been commenting ahead of kick-off at St James’ Park.
This Newcastle United match seeing two form teams meeting.
United having won their last five matches in a row in all competitions, whilst Palace have won six of their last eight games in all competitions.
Crystal Palace fans saw their team hammered 4-0 last season and the last four visits have seen Eddie Howe’s side win three and draw one, indeed, it is over four years since Palace last scored at St James’ Park.
An intriguing game awaits and interesting to see what Oliver Glasner does with his team selection during such a busy schedule of matches, especially as Palace have their FA Cup semi-final in ten days time against Villa.
As for Eddie Howe and Jason Tindall, both Anthony Gordon and Joe Willock now back and competing for a first team place, with only long-term injured Lascelles, Hall and Botman unavailable.
Crystal Palace fans commenting ahead of Wednesday night on their Holmesdale message board:
‘We need to get back to our old defensive ways – or judging by the way Newcastle are taking [Man] United apart it won’t be a pleasant night on Wednesday.
Optimistically I think we will and scrape a 1-1.’
‘Glasner won’t make the same errors [as he did against Man City].
Draw.’
‘Newcastle are very physical and it has getting a few injuries all over it kind of game and loosing 2-0.
They would rather kick Ezes legs out of it than let him do his normal glide past players.’
‘Newcastle were one of the worst performances against us I’ve seen all season.
They had no attempts at goal, I believe. But Guehi scored for them.
We had dozens of half chances and maybe 2-3 gilt edged chances we didn’t take.
They were on the back of a European game and Isak had a knock, in mitigation to them. I think he came off quick enough and Gordon was awful up front.
They got away with quite a bit – although at home we were reffed like an away team. Something we must be used to by now.’
‘Feels like a lifetime ago that game, that Munoz goal in the last minute really kick started our season.
I really do think it will be a really different game to that one. Spurs and Newcastle away games we just don’t do well.’
‘Newcastle have won their last 5 games, including the victory against Liverpool in the League Cup final, and I expect them to add to this tally on Wednesday.’
‘So they’re due a defeat then ?’
‘Regrettably, can see nothing other than a defeat coming our way.
A Newcastle win, 2-1.’
‘Can’t see us getting anything up there, yesterday will have left its mark. 2-0 to them, but our recovery will be against Bournemouth on Saturday’
‘Just watched the game they played against Man Utd, preying some of their players either got injured or sent off.
However, they were impressive and even though I try and promote positivity with our results – on this occasion, I see ourselves losing.
We have some tough fixtures coming up – the chances of us getting into Europe are by one route only – winning the F A Cup.
Hopefully, OG rotates players and focuses on our big day out in a few weeks.’
‘I live in Newcastle am interested in a ticket.’
‘Providing they don’t come off the starting blocks like rottweilers sensing blood, then we’ve got a chance.
I’m hoping for a bit of complacency, a bit less energy on their part. But we must be at our best.
If so 2-0 to us, JP and Franca (or Eze penalty). And pray no injuries or red cards.’
‘They battered Man United today , but then again so did we when we played them .
I think it all depends if Kamada is playing . If he is we wont win as its like playing with 10 men . If he’s not playing i reckon we will grab a narrow win.’
‘I am interested in spare ticket for newcastle game.’
‘If Kamada plays its 12 Newcastle player against us 10 men.’
‘As much as I want to be confident, ours and Newcastle’s games this weekend makes that very tough, although with our back 3 and hopefully Hughes back in, we’ll put up a good fight. 2-1 Newcastle, Sarr on the scoresheet for us.’
‘3-1 Newcastle. This is a tough game anytime, but Glasner won’t overwork Mateta or Hughes in this one.
Bournemouth might be the game to target for points. We should rest everyone we can against Arsenal.’
‘I’m with the consensus, we’ll get stuffed, batter Bournemouth, and make changes for Arsenal to save a bit for Villa.’
‘They didn’t do a thing at Selhurst and we owned them last season under Oli.
Into them.’
‘Looking for one ticket. Live in Newcastle but Palace fan.’
‘After all the optimism predicted for the [Man] City game, it’s comforting to see the pessimism for this. We’ll get a point.’
‘Interesting to see if we have the tactics, ability, balls to give Newcastle a game.’
‘I’m going to say a good old 0-0 draw. Been ages since we’ve had one of those, and we were previously addicted to them like crack.’
‘I think OG will want a clean sheet… a dull game with an Eddie counter attack goal and Devenney and franca playing. 0-1 Palace.’
‘Looking for two tickets for this away game. thanks in advance.’
‘An extra days rest and the return of Guehi and Nketiah should give us something to be positive about, but no doubt this will be a tough game given Newcastle’s form. I think this could be an entertaining one. 2-2.’
‘After watching Newcastle yesterday and seeing the way they mauled MU and even with our great Captain back, cannot see us being able to handle their intensity, I fear we may get thumped again!’
‘Eddie Howe recovering from pneumonia, hoping he will be ok.
Our squad should be stronger, I think we could grab a point 2-2.’
‘Our record away to them hasn’t been great over last few years. Last win courtesy of Luka?
I will be happy with a draw.’
‘In the reverse fixture Newcastle were shocking and it took a Munoz last minute goal to rescue a point for us . Have a feeling the game will pan out the same way so some sort of draw!’
‘Make or break for our chances of getting into Europe via the league and overhauling Brighton I think. Win and we’re just 2 points behind so it’s still do-able. 5 points may be too much.
Guehi back and Hughes back, I think we’ll beat them. 3-1.’
‘A loss. Newcastle are currently in hot form.’
‘Hello, will likely be a first in these forums but I’m a Chesterfield fan (live in Newcastle) and like everyone else, love going to the footy.
