Whilst during that NUFC break, after 11 weeks that saw only one Premier League win, out of nowhere Crystal Palace fans have now suddenly seen two in a row for the first time this season.

Crystal Palace fans now buoyant, having witnessed a 1-0 win at Anfield and a 5-2 hammering of West Ham.

Crystal Palace fans commenting ahead of Wednesday night on their Holmesdale message board:

‘Absolutely fantastic!!

Back to back,very impressive wins.

Can we make it three in a row against a talented Newcastle ??

Think so and going for a 2-1 home win.’

‘Newcastle are a very good side on their day.

If Wharton is OK we will give them a good game but since we are now all but safe, we could relax a bit. That could be a good or bad thing.

I’d like to see our star players showing the fans what they have been missing all season because of all the injuries. If that happens, it will be a very entertaining game.

No idea about the score, but you expect Newcastle to win as a neutral.’

‘Newcastle will be totally different opposition to what appeared to be a jaded W.Ham.

They have emerged victorious in 4 of their last 6 PL games and I suspect the result will either be an honourable draw or a win for the Geordies.’

‘I think OG might rest Olise for this one and start Ayew. I also wonder if Richards will be fit enough to start again. Given our injury problems coupled with Newcastle’s rest period I think this is going to be a tough one (apparently they’re second only to City in the form table). I’d love another win but I’m going to say 1-1.’

‘It was a great performance yesterday, but they gave us time and space to play – i mean, Mateta stopped, turned, read War and Peace, then shot past Fabianski for his second.

West ham was as poor a team as I’ve seen. Newcastle won’t be such pushovers.

Saying That, we’re playing with renewed confidence, and enjoying our football. At Home, we run out 3-1 winners.’

‘This one for those reasons. Unlike our last 2 opponents, not a team we are playing with the benefit of a full recovery week and with them off the back of a European defeat a couple of days earlier.

And not just Richards on the fitness. Hughes only 50% fit and playing through injury.

Saying that, we are a team transformed with our tails in the air, so who knows?’

‘Newcastle will undoubtedly give us more of a match than the tired Hammers, but if Ollie feels able to play the same front three we should be able to earn ourselves a point. I would, of course, hope we can keep a clean sheet and score a couple of cracking goals on the break.

I’ll be satisfied with a draw.’

‘This will be about:

– who’s recovered sufficiently from Sunday

– how well we manage Newcastle’s press and their overloads down the wings (which overwhelmed us at St James’s Park).

I’d love another win as we all would but I think we will do well to get a draw (2-2). I’d be happy with that – we don’t do 3 wins in a row often.’

‘I’ll go for a Desmond 2-2 and the point we need, then we can get the flip flops out.’

‘4-1, Matate 2, Olise and Eze. they have 24 goals, and 13 assists between them, not bad for an injury hit season.’

‘Im just enjoying the ride and glad to see some smiles around the place both on the pitch and in the stands .

Hope we can continue the winning streak to 3 against a team thats beatable but one we seem to struggle against . A draw wouldn’t be a disaster

1-0.’

‘All I ask is for to cut out the silly goals we concede.’

‘If we play positive and keep pushing forward with this quick passing play, I can’t see any reason why we shouldn’t win.

Whereas in the past we sat back and tried to defend a measly one goal lead (inviting trouble) this team wants 2 or 3 more to kill off the game. Great to finally see.’

‘Glasner said the only player unavailable from the weekend is Holding (hamstring) which would indicate that Wharton is fit.

Wilson is likely to be back in the Newcastle squad which is unfortunate as he has a habit of scoring v Palace, although he’ll probably be on the bench with their front 3 in good form.

I’m going for 1-1 with a Howe team up to all their usual tricks (the pundits have coined a new phrase ‘game management’ but I prefer to call it ‘cheating’).’

‘I am quite sure Howe will instruct his team to disrupt our team by any means fair or foul to ensure Newcastle get the result they want. I fear they may be too streetwise for us as our newly found gung-ho approach could turn out to be a little naive in our play. I hope I am wrong but I am going for a 2-1 defeat.’

‘Yes, on reflection this is probably correct. Sad, as Newcastle used to be such an entertaining team.’

It’s a big test to see where our fitness levels have got to after a 3 day break compared to Newcastle’s 11 days. Exciting times. A draw would be a fantastic result given newcastles form. A win and selhurst will be rocking.’

‘At least a point.’
