Crystal Palace defender Joel Ward stressed the positives after their defeat to Leeds United last night.

Ward captained Crystal Palace as they took on Leeds United at Elland Road, leading the team through 93 minutes level with the Yorkshire side until a frustrating late penalty denied Palace a point.

He was up front about his frustration with the scoreline – calling it a “tough one to take" – but chose to address positives from the night.

Those, he said, were: “Coming away from home, putting in a performance like that and creating the chances we created.

“I feel we should have certainly got something out the game, and if not, taken all three points.

“Coming away from home and playing against Leeds is going to be a tough evening but we matched them all over the pitch and created probably more chances than they did. Like I said we should have come away with at least a point, if not all three."

He added: “Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose and tonight it didn't quite fall for us.

“I think when you see the signal and see him [the referee] going over [to the monitor] you know there's something there. Obviously you have to prepare yourself for what's coming next. But I think I want to reflect on our performance; it was a positive performance."
