Crystal Palace attacker Andros Townsend: They loved me at Newcastle

Crystal Palace attacker Andros Townsend is proud of his time with Newcastle United.

Townsend faces his old club tonight.

He said, "It was incredible.

"I was devastated at the time that the club did get relegated because for myself as a flair winger who liked to take players on and excite the crowd, it was absolute perfection for me.

"They absolutely loved me, but unfortunately they got relegated and I did so well that I felt I had to stay in the Premier League and made the decision to leave.

"It's a massive club - the fanbase, the city, the fact the stadium is in the city centre just adds to it.

"It's a great club, and hopefully they can get back to where they were before."
