Crystal Palace have confirmed that Joel Ward has been named the club’s new captain.

He assumes the armband from Luka Milivojević, who left this summer upon the expiration of his contract.

Ward has previous experience of skippering the side, having done so on 24 occasions previously.

“It’s a huge honour for me to be named captain of Crystal Palace,” Ward stated. “I’ve been here for a long time and played under some fantastic leaders in south London. I hope I can emulate that while wearing the armband myself.”

Having been on the books at Selhurst Park for over a decade, Ward has made 335 appearances for the Eagles – only eight players in club history have more.
