Crystal Palace and two PL clubs to join Javier Tebas-backed Union of European Clubs (UEC) | OneFootball

Three Premier League teams are considering joining the Union of European Clubs (UEC), reports CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs.

Crystal Palace have indicated interest and will form a part of the UEC, which launches on Monday.

La Liga president Javier Tebas is backing the union having met with its founders.

The European Club Association (ECA) is the sole representative body of European clubs.

It is widely recognised by FIFA, UEFA and all other stakeholders and is chaired by Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

UEC have no plans to rival ECA, but they want to represent the majority of European clubs.

Their key mission is to give more than a thousand small or medium-sized clubs that are not ECA members a direct voice.

UEC want all clubs in both male and female football to be represented.

They want those from smaller or mid-sized leagues to have a voice and are offering a ‘one club, one vote’ membership.

The ECA have often favoured the top clubs in the top five leagues on the continent.

UEC want to stand against that, and Tebas is a huge fan of their mission.

The La Liga president has vehemently frowned against the inequality rife in Europe.

Some big clubs attempted to form a European Super League in 2021, and Tebas was one of those that opposed it.

There are still attempts to relaunch the league under a new format, but a strong body like the UEC could make such a plan impossible.

Palace are expected to be joined by more Premier League clubs.

Clubs in La Liga will also follow suit, and they already have the backing of Tebas.
