Crystal Palace are unlikely to re-sign Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka this summer, says The Sun’s Tom Barclay.

The 24-year-old has been linked with a return to Selhurst Park, but Barclay has told GIVEMESPORT that a deal probably will not happen due to his wages.

Wan-Bissaka is not thought to be in the plans of new United manager Erik ten Hag.

According to the Manchester Evening News, both the Englishman and fellow full-back Brandon Williams have been told they are free to leave the club this transfer window.

Palace, who sold Wan-Bissaka to the Red Devils for £50m back in 2019, are said to be interested in their former player.

In April, The Athletic claimed that they were considering a loan move for Wan-Bissaka.

What has Barclay said about Wan-Bissaka and Palace?

Though he would not rule anything out completely, Barclay thinks the chances of Wan-Bissaka returning to south London are slim.

Speaking to GMS, The Sun journalist said: “Palace, I think, for the size of his wages, it’s probably unlikely. I never rule anything out, but the noises I’m getting is that it’s probably unlikely. I’d be surprised with Palace.”

Should Wan-Bissaka push for a move to Palace?

All things considered, it may be his best option. Following Ten Hag’s arrival at Old Trafford, it does not look like he is going to play too often at United.

It appears that the Dutchman does not fancy him, but that does not mean Wan-Bissaka cannot be useful elsewhere.

Overall, he is a very good defender. As per FBref, the ex-England U21 international has ranked in the 93rd percentile for interceptions and the 95th for blocks among full-backs over the last year, showing that he can defend exceptionally well.

Going forward, however, is another matter, and that is likely to be the reason why Ten Hag is open to letting him go. When it comes to progressive passes and touches in the attacking penalty area, Wan-Bissaka ranks in the 18th percentile and the 42nd percentile respectively.

To put that into context, Chelsea’s Reece James is in the 92nd percentile and the 93rd percentile, respectively, for those two metrics. Of course, James plays much higher up the pitch as a wing-back, but whatever the case, the England international’s level is one Wan-Bissaka needs to reach if he is going to be a success at a team like United.

He has the defensive side of things covered, though, meaning he could still be a brilliant signing for Palace or whichever club he ends up at if he does leave Old Trafford this summer.
