Crystal Palace could pull off a ‘fantastic signing’ in the shape of Watford winger Ismaila Sarr this summer, according to The Sun journalist Tom Barclay.

The Eagles have been heavily linked with a move for the talented 24-year-old in recent days as Patrick Vieira continues to overhaul his first-team squad following an impressive opening 12 months at the helm.

What is the latest news involving Sarr?

A recent report from the Evening Standard claimed that Palace have ‘expressed an interest’ in signing Sarr and that Watford are braced for a formal offer from them before September’s deadline.

The Hornets stumped up £30 million to sign the Senegal international from Rennes back in 2019, and it’s claimed that they will not accept less than that to sanction his sale.

That figure would make Sarr Palace’s record-signing and it could prove a stumbling block for them, but add-ons and future clauses could help Vieira’s charges meet his valuation.

Palace are also reportedly long-term admirers of the rapid wide man having failed with a deadline-day bid of around £25m for him in the summer of 2020 following Watford’s relegation from the Premier League

But with Sarr having just two years remaining on his current contract at Vicarage Road, now could be the ideal time for Watford to cash-in on their prized asset.

What has Barclay said about Sarr?

In an interview with GiveMeSport, Barclay said: “He’d be a fantastic signing for Palace.

“Obviously, Michael Olise has just come back from injury, but when he’s not playing, Jordan Ayew is an underrated player and a very dependable player, but I think Ismaila Sarr is a next level player.

“The idea of him and Zaha and Olise with Eze in behind them is very, very exciting. So, if Palace can pull that one off, there’ll be looking even better than they were before.”

Would Sarr be a good signing?

Sarr was unable to prevent Watford from dropping into the Championship for the second time during his three-year spell with the club, but he still showed glimpses of his true potential.

What year did Crystal Palace legend Ian Wright leave the club?

1991 1995 1989 1992

A return of five goals and two assists in 22 top-flight fixtures was a respectable return for a side who only found the back of the net on 34 occasions in 38 league games.

It’s likely that Sarr’s output would improve in a better side brimming with attacking talent, and Palace fans will surely be hoping the club’s hierarchy can get this deal over the line.
