Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha could be ‘open to a move abroad’ amid uncertainty over his Selhurst Park future, according to The Sun journalist Tom Barclay.

The talisman was the subject of interest during the summer transfer window, when the Eagles also spent more than £30million securing reinforcements, but he remained in south London.

What’s the latest news involving Zaha?

Zaha may have hit the headlines after purchasing Ivorian fourth tier side Espoir Club D’Abengourou earlier this month, but Palace fans will be concerned over his future on the pitch rather than off it.

That is because the talisman’s £130,000-per-week deal is set to expire next summer, meaning he could pen a pre-contract agreement with an overseas club in January and his departure has become a serious possibility.

According to The Sun, Palace have upped the ante in their attempts to keep Zaha on board and offered fresh terms.

The report suggests the Eagles have held discussions with the 26-cap Ivory Coast international’s representatives for more than a year and, despite their efforts to tie him down to a long-term contract, there is uncertainty over whether he will put pen-to-paper.

It is understood that Chelsea mulled over whether to test Palace’s resolve by lodging a Zaha bid during the closing stages of the summer window as well, while transfer insider Dean Jones has revealed that Arsenal have also been keeping tabs on the winger’s situation.

What has Tom Barclay said about Zaha?

Barclay has refused to rule out the possibility of Zaha opting to leave the Premier League if he does not sign on the dotted line at Palace.

The journalist believes a switch overseas could be in the offing if the right offer lands on the Eagles academy product’s lap.

Barclay told GIVEMESPORT: “He obviously plays for the Ivory Coast, although he has grown up in England.

“I don’t think there’s any particular reason why he wouldn’t be open to a move abroad. It sort of depends on what the offer is.”

Has Zaha been linked with any overseas clubs?

According to respected Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Roma considered making a move for Zaha during the summer transfer window.

Romano suggests the Italian giants’ boss Jose Mourinho – who has previously managed in the Premier League with Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur – along with the club’s hierarchy, are admirers.

Roma could head to the negotiating table in January and that may become even more of a possibility if Zaha maintains the fine form he has enjoyed during the early stages of the campaign.
