Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi has a “real good chance” of making England’s World Cup squad, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The ex-Chelsea star has been named in each of Gareth Southgate’s last three squads and looks to have every chance of going to the tournament.

What’s the latest news involving Guehi?

The centre-back department is one of the most competitive in the England ranks, although with Harry Maguire not playing for Manchester United and John Stones currently injured, there is a window of opportunity.

Eric Dier might have played himself into the side, while Kyle Walker and Conor Coady are also in contention.

But Guehi, who signed from Chelsea for £18m last summer, will also fancy his chances, especially after winning three caps in the last nine games in 2022.

He wasn’t involved in the recent games against Italy and Germany, but he looks to be in Southgate’s thoughts.

And O’Rourke reckons that continuing his good form up to when the season pauses in mid-November could land him a seat on the plane to Qatar.

What did O’Rourke say about Guehi?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “The key for him is to keep performing well for Crystal Palace and that should hopefully get him in the England squad and then the rest is up to him to try and impress Gareth Southgate.

“But I think he’s got a real good chance of going to the World Cup, whatever.

“Even if he stays at Crystal Palace, I expect him to become a regular in that squad over the years.”

How has Guehi performed this season?

Guehi has played every minute in the Premier League, although it’s been a testing start to the campaign for Palace, who’ve already come up against three of last season’s top six.

They did hold Liverpool to a 1-1 draw at Anfield, though, and were only narrowly beaten by Arsenal and Manchester City.

Besides the 4-2 defeat at the Etihad, Palace have been solid at the back, with Guehi more than playing his part.

According to WhoScored, he’s been averaging 3.8 clearances per game, bettered only by Joachim Anderson, who makes an huge 9.8, while no one in the Palace ranks makes more than his 1.3 blocks every appearance.

Guehi also has the best passing success rate (88 per cent) in the squad from those who have started a game, averaging 55 successful passes every game, which will surely only improve his England chances.
