One player who Leeds United are reaping the rewards from retaining this summer is Crysencio Summerville, with the winger emerging as one of the best attacking players in the Championship this season.

Fabrizio Romano revealed on transfer deadline day over the summer that a bid of around £20 million was rejected by Leeds for the winger from Burnley, with the Whites said to be holding out for more.

However, he remained with the West Yorkshire outfit beyond the deadline, and has become a key part of Daniel Farke’s first-team plans.

Summerville signed a new deal at the start of last season, keeping him tied down at Elland Road until the summer of 2026. Leeds were hopeful he could improve upon last term, where he scored four and assisted a further two in what was his major breakout season with the Whites in 2021/22.

The forward has featured in 23 of the team’s first 26 games this season, contributing 12 goals and six assists already, making him one of the most prolific and devastating players in the league.

Therefore, interest was always likely to increase, with the January window now open. Here, we round up all the latest news regarding the future of the 22-year-old winger.

Alan Nixon via Patreon claims that Roberto De Zerbi has the winger on his radar as a potential replacement for Kaoru Mitoma, who has been subject to interest given his own rise in stature since moving to the South Coast, including links to Barcelona in October.

"Brighton are keeping an eye on Leeds United’s tricky attacker Crysencio Summerville - in case they lose Kaoru Mitoma."

Overall, Mitoma has featured 65 times for Brighton, registering 13 goals and 14 assists, subsequently signing a new contract in October as well. However, he is suffering from a knee injury currently.

Nixon continued: "The Seagulls do not want to lose the skillful Japanese wide man but are doing their homework all the same.

"Summerville is key to the Leeds promotion push and it would take a big fee to land him next month. However if the Elland Road side does not go up then he could be sold in the summer."

Aston Villa claim made regarding Summerville

Journalist Paul Brown believes it may be difficult to keep Summerville's Leeds exit rumours quiet during the January transfer window, speaking to Give Me Sport.

Brown believes Summerville has the potential to make the step up to the Premier League and has spoken out about Aston Villa's links to him.

He said: "Yeah, I think that wide forward position is one that he probably is looking at.

"It's difficult to know exactly the profile of the player given the type of formation that Aston Villa have been playing and the roles that people like Bailey and Diaby have been playing – it’s tricky to find players that exactly fit into that.

"Summerville, I find very interesting because I actually think he'd be a really good fit for Aston Villa and I think that this is going to be someone that could really make a name for himself in the Premier League within the right system.

"Obviously, Leeds don't want to hear anything about that right now, but it'll be a difficult rumour to keep quiet, I think, in January."

Newcastle United are eyeing a move for Leeds' star wide forward, according to Football Transfers. The Magpies are considering a move for the player who they were targeting last summer.

The 22-year-old was the subject of reported interest from Newcastle during the summer window, with Football Insider claiming that they would only consider making a swoop for Summerville's services if Leeds fell into the second tier.
