Cruz Azul has fired head coach Diego Aguirre following the historic 7-0 loss against rivals Club America on Saturday night at the Azteca stadium.

The team’s Under 20 coach Raul 'Potro’ Gutierrez is expected to take over as interim manager as the team searches for a permanent replacement.

Aguirre departs the Mexico City team after leading the club for only 10 games, arriving ahead of the 2022 Liga MX Apertura. He managed a record of 2W-6L-2D and conceded a shocking 25 goals that categorizes Cruz Azul as the worst defensive side with a -13 difference.

The team currently sits just one point above last place Queretaro on the Liga MX table, with eight points in 10 games.

Raul 'Potro’ Gutierrez must now step in and take charge quickly, as Cruz Azul returns to action on Saturday against Queretaro. The interim head coach enters the playing field with extensive international experience, but is set to lead a senior Liga MX side for the first time.
