Cristiano Ronaldo really has made Europe his playground over the course of the last two decades.

The Portuguese superstar has taken the game to truly unprecedented heights and, despite his advancing years, shows no signs of slowing down.

Ronaldo first caught the eye in the colours of Sporting Lisbon before a certain Sir Alex Ferguson pounced to bring him to Manchester United.

The rest, as they say, is history. Ronaldo would go on to dominate the Premier League, winning his first Ballon d’Or during that initial – and quite ridiculous – Old Trafford spell.

He then made the seismic shift to Spain where his already heady numbers became simply stratospheric in the colours of Real Madrid.

Ronaldo plundered goals, assists, and trophies with frightening ease at the club, breaking record after record to become their greatest ever player.

He then gave Serie A a go, conquered it and has since returned to Old Trafford where, on an individual basis at least, Ronaldo has been very impressive indeed.

During his time traversing the continent, Ronaldo has played under a number of managers but under whose tutelage did he thrive the most?

Well, thanks to the gurus at TransferMarkt, we can just about answer that question.

Cristiano Ronaldo statistics under individual managers

The stand out moments come from his spells under the aforementioned Ferguson, Carlo Ancelotti, Jose Mourinho and Zinedine Zidane.

Under Ancelotti, in particular, his numbers are simply wild, registering a staggering 112 goals and 47 assists in just 101 games.

However, his numbers under Mourinho, considering how the Portuguese gaffer likes to play, are equally impressive, raking in 168 goals and 49 assists in 164 games.

You can see his full stats, per TransferMarkt, under each manager in the table below:

We’ve also gone ahead and calculated his goal involvements per game under each manager to try and pick a winner.

12. László Bölöni: 0.3511. Ralf Rangnick: 0.59 10. Sir Alex Ferguson: 0.659. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: 0.858. Max Allegri: 0.897. Andrea Pirlo: 0.956. Maurizio Sarri: 1.05. Manuel Pelligrini: 1.254. Zinedine Zidane: 1.253. Jose Mourinho: 1.322. Rafael Benitez: 1.371. Carlo Ancelotti: 1.57

Now these numbers, of course, need to be taken with a hefty pinch of context.

We are by no means saying that Ferguson is the ninth best manager Ronaldo served under, simply because his numbers in his early years don’t match the peak years of his career.

Nor are we saying that Rafael Benitez was his the second best manager he played under, especially considering he only played 25 games under the Spaniard.

One thing we probably can’t argue over or deny, though, are that those Ancelotti numbers are simply unmatched and he is deserving of the number one spot.
