Cristiano Ronaldo will not face charges after being accused of rape, US prosecutors say.
Kathryn Mayorga had alleged that Ronaldo had raped her at a Las Vegas hotel in September 2009 and the case was re-opened in August 2018.
However, in a statement provided by the prosecutors, Ronaldo was cleared after the sexual assault claims “could not be proven beyond reasonable doubt”.
An official statement read: “On August 28, 2018, V contacted the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, asking that her sexual assault investigation be reopened, naming Cristiano Ronaldo as the offender.
“A Request for Prosecution was submitted to the District Attorney’s Office on July 8, 2019.
“Based upon a review of the information presented at this time, the allegations of sexual assault against Cristiano Ronaldo cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
“Therefore, no charges will be forthcoming.”
The initial report kept Mayorga anonymous as “V” and didn’t identify Ronaldo by name.
Magora still has a lawsuit pending against Ronaldo in the United States court in Las Vegas.
This situation will be taken further in federal court as a civil process, handled independently from Clarke County court of Nevada.
