Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo's relationship has sadly deteriorated in recent times.

In Ronaldo's infamous interview with Piers Morgan late last year, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner didn't exactly speak glowingly about his former partner-in-crime.

The Portugal international felt he'd been criticised far too often by Rooney and a number of other former Manchester United players.

On the subject of Rooney's apparent criticism, Ronaldo said: "I don't understand, you should ask this question to him. I don't know why he criticised me so bad.

"One year ago or six months ago, he was in my house and he picked up his kids and asked Cristiano [his son] if he wanted to play football. I don't understand people like that, maybe they want to be front page of the news or they want jobs."

When asked by Morgan if he thought it was jealousy, Ronaldo added: "Probably, because he finished his career in his 30s. I'm still playing at a high level, I'm not going to say that I'm looking better than him, which is true. It's hard to listen to that kind of criticism and negativity from people who played with you, for example Gary Neville as well."

Yeah, the two don't exactly see eye-to-eye these days, which is a real shame from a football fan's perspective.

Alongside one another at United, they really were a force to be reckoned with.

Goals aplenty were scored and Premier League defences just had no answer to their majestic brilliance.

What is more, there always appeared to be an air of respect between the two superstars - even after their clash at the 2006 World Cup.

Ronaldo's wink after Rooney was shown a straight red card remains one of football's most controversial moments and the Portuguese winger quickly became public enemy number one among the English.

But when he was asked about the incident on an episode of Sky Sports' Monday Night Football, Rooney refused to bemoan the actions of his former colleague...

Fair play, Wazza.

Unsurprisingly, fans in the video's comment section have heaped praise on Rooney.

We can only hope that Rooney and Ronaldo bring an end to their feud in the near future.

But with Rooney currently managing DC United out in the USA and Ronaldo now playing for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, they're unlikely to cross paths anytime soon.
