Cristiano Ronaldo has spent the last month monopolising the global football headlines.

His explosive interview with Piers Morgan over the state of affairs at Manchester United saw him fiercely shut down any hope of rebuilding his relationship with the club.

Fans and experts alike took to online platforms in their droves to share their feelings on the Ronaldo interview, with many divided over his decision to speak out in such a manner.

Cristiano Ronaldo ‘close’ to signing deal with Saudi Arabian club

What it did ultimately lead to was a painful break-up between the two parties, with United announcing that Ronaldo would be leaving the club with immediate effect.

Fortunately, there is the small matter of the World Cup to act as a buffer between Ronaldo and club unemployment but, if reports are to be believed, he will have his future sewn up prior to Christmas.

According to a report from Marca, Ronaldo is close to signing a blockbuster deal with Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr that could prove to be one of the biggest contracts in sports.

Per Marca, the deal is believed to be for two and a half seasons, with Ronaldo making a cool €200 million per season during his proposed time in the Gulf.

That is a simply monstrous deal and one that, for Ronaldo, could be hard to turn down.

Having made his intentions to continue playing in Europe crystal clear in the summer, it was always going to take a special deal to turn his head and it looks as though the deep-pocketed Saudi’s might have done enough.

The big-wigs in Saudi Arabia plan to make Ronaldo the pioneer star of their footballing program as rumours continue to circulate that they intend to bid for the 2030 World Cup.

Ronaldo will, of course, be done with his playing career by then, but attracting one of the greatest footballers to have kicked a ball to their shores would represent a massive coup for the Saudis in the short term.

Can Ronaldo help Portugal win the World Cup?

Ronaldo, meanwhile, will want to remain focused on the ongoing World Cup in Qatar as he looks to clinch the one prize that has escaped him in the game.

He set the Twitterverse alight yet again during Portugal’s clash with Uruguay after claiming a goal that Adidas later confirmed he had no business claiming.

Credit for the strike was ultimately handed to Bruno Fernandes after Adidas’ in-ball sensor showed that Ronaldo hadn’t got a touch on it with his attempted header.

Next up for Ronaldo and co. is a tie with South Korea as they bid to finish top of their group and build momentum going into the knock-out phase.
