Cristiano Ronaldo was an absolute beast under Jose Mourinho’s rule.

The two Portuguese icons spent three years working together at Real Madrid and they produced some stunning results.

Per Transfermarkt, no player in history has scored more goals for Mourinho than Ronaldo.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner scored 168 goals in 164 games for the Special One, a record that is simply absurd.

But while the stats from Ronaldo and Mourinho’s time together in Madrid are mighty impressive, the pair didn’t always see eye-to-eye.

In fact, towards the end of their working relationship at Los Blancos, things turned a bit ugly.

According to Spanish football expert Guillem Balague, the Portuguese duo actually came to blows in the dressing room in 2013 following a disagreement from a win – yes, a win – over Valencia.

There was real animosity between the pair in 2013, so it was only fitting that they came face-to-face in that year’s pre-season.

Mourinho had since moved to Chelsea after leaving Real Madrid by mutual agreement, with the two clubs meeting in the final of the International Champions Cup.

And Mourinho decided to up the ante in the build-up to the game by aiming a sly dig at his countryman.

What did Mourinho say about Ronaldo?

“I was manager for the first time in the 2000 year but, before that, I was assistant in big clubs and with big managers and coaching the best players in the world, so I was 30 and I was coaching Ronaldo, not this one [Cristiano], the real one, the Brazilian Ronaldo,” Mourinho told ESPN, per Goal.

Ouch.

But Ronaldo, as he’s done throughout his career, responded to Mourinho’s mind games with an on-pitch masterclass.

The 37-year-old got sweet revenge on his former manager by scoring two cracking goals in a 3-1 win for Real Madrid.

Ronaldo’s first goal was a stunning free-kick, while the second was a trademark header that finished off Mourinho’s Chelsea side once and for all.

Never make Ronaldo angry – you won’t like him when he’s angry!

It really was a vintage performance from football’s record goalscorer and his free-kick was absolute perfection.

Petr Cech in the Chelsea goal could do absolutely nothing about it and the header from Ronaldo past the Czech custodian wasn’t bad either.

If you choose to make Ronaldo mad, prepare to face the consequences…
