Cristiano Ronaldo is off the mark for 2024 after scoring his first goal of the year in Al Nassr’s 1-0 victory at Al Fayha in the Asian Champions League on Wednesday.

Luis Castro’s side secured a narrow advantage against their local rivals in the last-16 of the competition, thanks to Ronaldo’s brilliant finish with ten minutes to spare in Riyadh.

Ronaldo last scored in Al Nassr’s previous competitive fixture at the end of December, since when he famously missed the contrived friendly match against Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami earlier this month. Wednesday was Ronaldo’s return to action and unsurprisingly the Portuguese was the matchwinner, capping a stylish team goal by Al Nassr.

The return home leg takes place next week, before which Ronaldo’s side renew their Saudi Pro League campaign with a home clash against Al Fateh on Saturday. Despite their own strong performance in the national championship, Al Nassr trail Jorge Jesus’ unbeaten Al Hilal by a substantial seven points with just over half the campaign played.
