Cristiano Ronaldo has set his sights on a coaching role at Manchester United when he retires, according to reports. The 36-year-old completed a sensational return to the club earlier this month and has scored four goals in as many games since he signed.

Ronaldo is showing no signs of slowing up just yet but having with his 37th birthday coming up early next year, there are now reports of the former Juventus forward planning for his future.

According to The Sun, Ronaldo wants to hang up his boots at Manchester United and proceed into a coaching role at the club, with a view to guiding his son Cristiano Ronaldo Jr.

“Ronaldo has made it clear to everyone he has come back to United to help them win trophies,” a source told the publication. “But in his mind he is going to play for them for more than a couple of years.

“He is still at the peak of his physical fitness and loves showing that nothing is impossible. He is obsessed with football and knows everything about the game,”

“Lots of players have started their coaching career at United so he thinks it could be a good way of starting off the next chapter of his career.”

Ronaldo signed a two-year contract at United when he returned for his second coming and there is a clause to extend that agreement for a further year, which could take him beyond his 39th birthday.

Should he venture into coaching, he would become the latest player from the Champions League winning squad in 2008 to do so. Michael Carrick and Wayne Rooney are already coaches whilst Patrice Evra completed his badges earlier this week.
