Two of Pepe’s most high-profile former teammates at La Liga giants Real Madrid have this evening taken to social media, to send heartfelt messages to the Portuguese.

This comes, for those who may have missed it, after Pepe announced his retirement from the professional game.

Defender Pepe, for his part, continued to play a key role for club and country alike this past season, culminating in a starring showing at Euro 2024.

Now 41 years of age, however, the stopper, evidently, has come to the decision that the time is right to call time on an iconic career.

Pepe, in turn, unveiled a heartfelt video message on Thursday afternoon, confirming his decision to hang up his boots with immediate effect:

Fond messages of farewell have since, as expected, poured in for Pepe, whose exploits whilst lining out for the likes of Real Madrid and Porto will not soon be forgotten.

And, as alluded to above, adding their respective names to the list of the stopper’s well-wishers, a short time ago, were two of his former Blancos teammates.

The pair in question? Sergio Ramos, and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The former took to Instagram to post his message, showcased below:

“A true warrior. Many matches, wins and trophies together. It was a pleasure playing alongside you, brother. Enjoy this new stage of your life, I wish you the best, my friend.”

And Pepe’s compatriot Ronaldo soon followed suit on ‘X’, writing:

‘There are not enough words to express how much you mean to me, friend. We won everything there was to win on the field, but the greatest achievement is the friendship and respect I have for you. You are unique, my brother. Thank you for so much.’
