Back in 2003, a young, virtually unknown Cristiano Ronaldo joined Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon and the rest is history.
But history could have been so very different.
In a candid interview with Piers Morgan for ITV, Ronaldo has revealed that he was actually very close to joining United’s Premier League rivals Arsenal instead.
“It’s true. Of course it’s true,” said the Portuguese star when asked about the Gunners rumour.
“[I was] very close. One step. Incredible. Seriously.”
And in case you’re wondering what that might have looked like, Morgan had an Arsenal shirt on hand, replete with Cristiano’s name and iconic number seven.
Elsewhere, the 34-year-old revealed he wants to be a cool father to his kids …
And also discussed his obsession with records and awards …
Ronaldo will be in Champions League action on Wednesday night, when Juventus take on Atlético Madrid.
