Manchester United's 2-1 victory over West Ham on Sunday afternoon was very, very dramatic.

That's a bit of an understatement to be honest, because David de Gea had to save a penalty in the final minute of stoppage-time to secure the three points for the Red Devils.

West Ham were awarded a spot kick after Luke Shaw was deemed to have handled the ball in the area following a VAR review.

David Moyes then opted to bring on club captain Mark Noble to take the penalty, a decision that backfired massively.

Noble's record from 12 yards throughout his career is mighty impressive, but his attempt from the spot this time around was mediocre at best.

Martin Atkinson's call to award West Ham a penalty was slightly controversial, despite the fact it was the correct one.

That's because in the 15 minutes before the game's major incident, Cristiano Ronaldo - who scored United's equaliser in the first half - was denied what appeared to be two clear penalties for United.

The first saw him upended by Vladimir Coufal in the box, but Atkinson deemed that the contact was not enough to warrant a spot kick.

It looked like an obvious penalty and a short while later, Ronaldo was left in a heap on the turf again after a challenge by Kurt Zouma.

The French centre-back didn't make any contact with the ball and appeared to foul the Portuguese superstar, but once again, United were not awarded a penalty.

Take a look at Ronaldo's penalty shouts v West Ham in the videos below...

The evidence is pretty damning, isn't it?

In the first incident, Ronaldo does appear to try and initiate contact from Coufal, however, the West Ham right-back still looks as if he tackles the five-time Ballon d'Or winner in an illegal manner.

The fact Zouma's foul on the United legend wasn't given by the referee almost beggars belief and we'll never know why it wasn't subject to a VAR review.

Imagine the headlines if Noble had converted his spot kick...
