Ronaldo was shown a straight red card for tugging Murillo’s hair – a “violent conduct” offence which would typically warrant a three-match ban.
However, European football’s governing body have decided to go easy on the Juventus forward and he will only be banned for one Champions League game.
That means he will miss the meeting with Young Boys on matchday two but will be available for the trip to face his old club Manchester United at Old Trafford on 23 October.
Reports coming out of Spain last week suggested the Portuguese superstar feels he has been “persecuted” by Uefa since leaving Real Madrid for Italy over the summer.
If that is the case, they have a funny way of showing it.
What Ronaldo did may not be the most violent act to ever grace a football pitch, but he can perhaps consider himself rather lucky on this occasion.
