Cristiano Ronaldo eats, drinks and breathes goals.

Say what you like about the wider GOAT debate, but the simple fact of the matter is that Ronaldo is the greatest goalscorer in the history of men’s professional football.

Well, that’s unless you subscribe to the calculations of the Czech FA, who claim that Ronaldo actually needs to amass 822 goals to surpass the tally posted by the legendary Josef Bican.

Ronaldo’s unbelievable goalscoring

However, seeing as the Manchester United star already has 815 strikes to his name, it’s fair to say that he’s only a few weeks away from putting his title beyond reproach either way.

And arguably the biggest reason behind the Portuguese icon becoming the most prolific goalscorer in history is his ability to find the back of the net in just about every way imaginable.

It could easily be asserted that there has never been a more complete centre forward with Ronaldo proving just as lethal with his weaker left foot and head as he is with his stronger right boot.

But it doesn’t end there with Ronaldo also having scored more than his fair share of free-kicks, penalties, long-range strikes, volleys, one-on-ones and countless other kinds of goals.

Ronaldo and indirect free-kicks

In fact, such is the variety and diversity of the goals that Ronaldo scores that the great man himself has even tried his hand at the lesser-spotted footballing phenomena of indirect free-kicks.

You can hardly call yourself a football fan if you don’t get a little giggle of excitement when you see the rare event that is a free-kick within the penalty area unfolding before you eyes.

And United supporters might now be thinking of the time that Ronaldo scored a free-kick inside the box against Aston Villa, but that’s not actually his finest goal of all within the circumstances.

“How did Cristiano Ronaldo score this?”

Rather, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner was able to score an indirect free-kick so impressive for Real Madrid that a screenshot of the build-up to it recently went viral on social media.

Twitter user @Vettel_AMR racked up no less than 1,000 retweets and 21,000 ‘likes’ for posting the photograph and begging the question: “How did Cristiano Ronaldo score this?”

With no less than seven Malaga players, as well as goalkeeper Willy Caballero, positioned on the goal line, Ronaldo looked to have the odds stacked against him despite standing just six yards out.

But this is one of the greatest sportspeople of all time we’re talking about here, so be sure to find out the answer to the tweet’s question by checking out Ronaldo’s emphatic finish down below:

Crash, bang, wallop.

No-nonsense finish

Caballero left the door ajar on his side of the goal with Ronaldo duly taking advantage by lashing an inch-perfect finish into the top corner despite almost the entire Malaga team blocking his path.

As such, it ranks amongst efforts from Alan Shearer and Gabriel Batistuta as one of the most no-nonsense indirect free-kicks that we’ve ever seen converted.

And it just goes to show that no situation is too rare in football for Ronaldo to take advantage of.

Let’s face it, we’d love to see what would happen if Ronaldo got another chance to hone his skills from an indirect free-kick at United if all 11 opposition players gathered together on the line.
