Manchester United join Tottenham Hotspur in Marcus Thuram race after Cristiano Ronaldo exit

Manchester United have seemingly joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race for signing Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram.

According to Ignazio Genuardi, Newcastle United and Spurs are both keen on signing the France international. However, journalist Rudy Galetti has claimed that Manchester United have joined the Premier League duo after Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit (h/t the Express).

The Portugal international is now a free agent and the Red Devils are seemingly on the market for a new forward. One can’t blame them for targeting Thuram.

After all, he is one of the most enticing prospects on the market considering the situation that surrounds him. He is currently in the final year of his deal at Borussia-Park.

Three-way battle for Thuram

Signing a player of his ilk, potentially on a free transfer, would be an awesome piece of business. The 25-year-old is playing in the prime years of his career.

He can play anywhere across the frontline and has an eye for goal, as proven by his 13 goals and four assists in 17 club games across competitions this season. That form has convinced manager Didier Deschamps to pick him for France’s 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign.

If it comes down to these three teams, which option would personally suit Thuram? Man United could hand him more playing time considering their lack of natural centre-forwards.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have Alexander Isak, Callum Wilson, and Chris Wood up front- three strikers who would want to play regular football. Spurs, meanwhile, cannot, in any manner, replace Harry Kane in the starting XI.

The England international’s place up top cannot be taken by anyone else right now, and in the near future if he stays at 17- that is safe to say. If manager Antonio Conte can find a way to fit him into his team in a manner which also pleases Thuram, then this deal is a no-brainer.
