Juventus coach Massimilinao Allegri revealed he was prepared to rest Cristiano Ronaldo against Bologna but insists the forward is just desperate to keep playing and scoring.
The former Real Madrid superstar didn’t get on the scoresheet in Wednesday’s 2-0 victory over Bologna but netted a brace against Sassuolo and a goal at Frosinone.
Ronaldo was growing frustrated after failing to score in his first Serie A games. However, now with three strikes to his name, Allegri believes Ronaldo could easily be on eight or nine goals already this season and is happy with his contribution.
“Tonight I wanted to get him out, but then he wanted to score and remained on the pitch.
“In Italy the championship is much more difficult because they (the opposition) double up, but from this, we always get an advantage because we play with eleven and somebody remains free.
“He (Ronaldo) made three goals, but he could have already been on eight or nine and we’re happy with what he’s doing. He is a player who can stop, a speed of passage, a way in which he makes the difference”.
