So far, Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United couldn’t have gone any better than it has. The 36-year-old superstar has made a goalscoring start to his second coming at the club, netting four goals in his first three appearances.

His ‘second debut’ against Newcastle saw him find the net twice before scoring in games against Young Boys and West Ham.

Ronaldo has now been backed to outscore Romelu Lukaku and Mohamed Salah this season as the trio look set to battle it out for this campaign’s Golden Boot.

“Ronaldo,” former Premier League striker Darren Bent said when asked who this year’s recipient of the award would be, as seen above. “Lukaku will be close and I think Salah, of course, you’ve always got to count in Salah as well.

“But Ronaldo is deadly. Not even so much he’s got four goals already in his first three games, it’s how many shots and good, big chances. It looks like he’s gonna take penalties. He could’ve easily had a hat-trick against West Ham at the weekend, should’ve had a penalty as well.

“When you’re that sharp and you’re that hungry to score goals that Ronaldo is, and your movement is so good, I can only see Ronaldo winning the Golden Boot.”

Should he be awarded the prestigious accolade, Ronaldo would become the first Manchester United player to do since Robin van Persie finished top of the charts with 26 goals in the 2012/13 season. It would also see him win the award for the second time, having done so in 2007/08 with 31 goals.
