Alejandro Garnacho was superb on his first Manchester United start on Thursday evening.

The 18-year-old was named in the starting lineup for United’s Europa League clash against Sheriff at Old Trafford.

He played a starring role as United cruised to victory against the Moldovan outfit.

Goals from Diogo Dalot, Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo gave Erik ten Hag’s side a convincing 3-0 victory.

Garnacho was a constance menace throughout his time on the pitch.

He made way in the 79th minute and was given a deserving standing ovation from the Old Trafford crowd.

The game was made even more special given he lined up alongside his childhood idol, Ronaldo.

And there was a wholesome moment between the two after the match.

Garnacho came back onto the pitch after the final whistle and shared an embrace with Ronaldo before leaving the pitch together. View the moment below…

Garnacho’s moment with Ronaldo made his day extra special.

He then posted an image of him and Ronaldo after the game on social media, alongside the caption: ‘I don’t know if it’s real or if I’m dreaming’.

Garnacho’s love and admiration for the 37-year-old legend is clear to see.

Erik ten Hag: Garnacho deserved his chance

Ten Hag spoke to the media after the game and he was pleased with the youngster’s performance.

“I think it was a good performance from him,” Ten Hag said, per BBC. “He did what I expect him to do.

“First, he deserved the chance after the last weeks. The start was difficult for him in the season.

“I was not happy with him, but the last weeks I was happy with him – he got a better attitude, more resilience, more determination and what you see he is a talent.

“He can take players on and that’s a good capability in football nowadays, especially against opponents who are defending compact.

“I’m happy with that. I hope for him it’s a stimulus, this first game, and that he knows: ‘Yeah, I have to do better to get into the team, to create more but don’t forget the other things.’ You are playing in a team.”
