Backroom staff from both sides kept the two centre-backs apart

Cristian Romero and Harry Maguire clashed again after the full-time whistle following Tottenham’s Europa League final win over Manchester United.

Spurs held on for a 1-0 victory in Bilbao to end their 17-year wait for a trophy and secure qualification for next season’s Champions League.

There were some nervy moments for them to endure, with Micky van de Ven producing a brilliant clearance off his line to keep out Rasmus Hojlund’s header and Guglielmo Vicario producing saves to deny Luke Shaw and Alejandro Garnacho.

United, though, could not find an equaliser and their frustrations grew as the match went on.

Maguire battled with Romero from set-pieces, with the pair wrestling off the ball in the second-half and that was a sign of things to come.

The United centre-back moved up front in the final minutes and he challenged with Romero in the air, giving away a foul and leading to the Spurs captain staying down to tick away the seconds.

Maguire was booked for that incident and his mood, unsurprisingly, had not improved after the match.

Romero broke away from the Spurs celebrations to console some of the United players and he went over to Maguire, but his pat on the back was not reciprocated.

The Spurs defender said something to Maguire, who followed Romero and shoved him, pointing to the other end of the pitch where the pair have previously clashed.

The pair continued to exchange words as Sergio Reguilon and members of the coaching staff from both clubs kept them apart.
