Diego Maradona played an awful joke on his new goalkeeper, Cristian Campestrini.

The 38-year-old Campestrini will, once again, work with Maradona after he signed for Dinamo Brest this month. Maradona recently took over as chairman of the Belarusian outfit.

The two have a history together, as Maradona called Campestrini up for his only two Argentina caps in late 2009 and early 2010. The goalkeeper did not earn a place in the 2010 World Cup squad, however.

In an interview with Secta Deportiva, the goalkeeper confessed that Maradona played a joke on him that made Campestrini cry.

“I wanted to kill myself when I heard the audio that he sent me. A few days ago, I woke up to a message from Diego where he said that my transfer was falling through. I cried and asked him for an explanation.”

When questioned about Maradona’s response, Campestrini commented, “He told me that he knew that goalkeepers were idiots, but he didn’t think we were that stupid. I was fuming.”

Classic Maradona.
