Sportitalia’s Michele Criscitiello has warned AC Milan against hiring Cesc Fabregas, suggesting it would be a similar mistake to what Juventus have made with Thiago Motta.
It seems to be a badly kept secret that Milan are looking for Sergio Conceicao’s potential replacement, given he was an mid-season solution and he hasn’t impressed enough to earn a stay. The Rossoneri will activate a break clause in his contract, as per reports.
Fabregas is one of the candidates to replace the Portuguese, at least according to Italian media, as he continues to do a good job in steering Como to comfortable safety. The Lariani nearly got a result twice against Milan this season, but surrendered winning positions.
When asked about the idea of coaching Milan during his post-match presser, Fabregas preferred not to answer the question and that will certainly fuel the rumours, knowing how the media works.
In his editorial on the Sportitalia website, Criscitiello spoke about Fabregas and what the future might hold for him, suggesting that he is not yet ready to coach a top club even if his work has been impressive to now.
“If Inter and Milan have thought, even for a moment, of Fabregas for their future then give Ausilio and Furlani a break because it would be a second Thiago Motta-style flop. We said it three weeks ago, we reiterate it today. More than ever. Fabregas is not ready for the big stages,” he said.

“Maybe he will be in two, three, five years. First, however, they must understand that Fabregas the footballer belongs to another life. Today you are only Como’s coach and to aspire to the big places you still need to gain a lot of experience.
“It’s strange that someone like him is more highly rated in Italy than in England. If he is that good he should be paying more attention to the Premier League where they know him better for his past.
“Como plays well, finishes little, the two-touch possession phase is good but for the rest there are too many gaps and too many blackouts. In short: Fabregas is good but he is not a genius. In Italy there are at least 20 coaches better than him.
“The big teams should not make the same mistake as Giuntoli. Don’t look at the name but look at the game and experience. Coaching Bologna and Como is a one thing but coaching Inter, Juve and Milan is another sport.”
