Newly promoted Serie A club Cremonese are close to reaching an agreement to sign veteran striker Jamie Vardy, according to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

The 38-year-old forward left Leicester City this summer after 12 remarkable years at the King Power Stadium.

During that time, he scored more than 200 goals and established himself as one of the most successful players in the club’s history.

Cremonese keen on experienced goalscorer

Early talks between the parties have progressed well. There is optimism that a mutually beneficial agreement could be reached soon.

The move would give Cremonese a proven goalscorer as they look to remain in Serie A following their return.

Cremonese enjoyed a memorable start to life in the top flight, securing a 2-1 victory at AC Milan.

The club are aware of the impact Vardy’s arrival could have both on the pitch and commercially.

Vardy played a decisive role in Leicester’s Premier League title triumph in 2016 and their FA Cup victory five years later.

He remained effective during his final season in the Premier League, scoring seven goals in 31 appearances.

His consistency over the years was highlighted when he won the Golden Boot in the 2019–20 campaign.

A move to Cremonese would mark the first time Vardy has played outside England.

Having risen from non-league football to the top, this move would be a new challenge in the twilight of his career.
