In one of the stunning results of the round, CRB advanced to the round of 16 by defeating the defending champions Palmeiras on penalties after defeating the hosts 1 nil in regular time.

The visiting side were able to keep their cool throughout the game, despite scoring an early goal, thanks to an amazing effort from CRB goalkeeper Diogo Silva.

Verdao, on the other hand, controlled ball possession but was unable to make out a goal against the visitors’ defence.

Palmeiras had an opportunity to come back into the game and take the lead over CRB early on. After a great cross from Ron, goalie Diogo Silva denied a shot from Wesley.

Palmeiras continued their offensive approach from the first half after the break. After a blunder by Gum in the opening minute of the second half, Luiz Adriano came close to equalizing, but Diogo Silva stopped his effort to keep the score line intact.

Late in the second half, CRB almost made it 2-0 when Diego Torres received a wonderful pass, beat Felipe Melo, and put the ball in the bottom corner, but Weverton was there to stop the Argentine’s effort.
