Pundit Micah Richards has recently been talking about Liverpool academy graduate Rhys Williams.

Williams has played for Liverpool’s first-team this season because of injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.

Williams has made 15 appearances for Liverpool’s first-team this season, and he has not embarrassed himself.

The 20-year-old is averaging a WhoScored player rating of 6.56 across the 2020-21 campaign.

Richards believes that Liverpool have found a “cracking young player” in Williams this season.

Richards said on Sky Sports Premier League (8:01pm, May 8, 2021): “I think it’s not fair to judge him [Williams] so soon. He has also been thrown in at the deep end. Sometimes you sink, sometimes you swim, but you just need a late more time. I think he is a cracking young player.”

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Williams has done very well when he has been given at opportunity to play for Liverpool’s first-team this season.

The exciting thing about Williams is he is still so young. Therefore, he is far from the finished article.

Playing senior football this season has fast-tracked his development.

With the likes of Van Dijk, Gomez and Matip set to return next season, we would love to see Williams go out on loan.

The 20-year-old could continue developing and improving his game by going out on loan. Playing regular senior football is the next step for Williams.
