Coventry United complete loan signing of Aston Villa defender Haigh | OneFootball

Coventry United have completed the signing of Aston Villa defender Natalie Haigh on a loan deal until the end of the season.

The 32-year-old has been out of favour at Aston Villa this season and she will now help Coventry United in their desperate battle to remain in the FA Women’s Championship following their recent points deduction.

Haigh becomes the first signing of the new era at Coventry United. The deal was confirmed this morning in an update on Aston Villa’s official club website.

The defender joined Aston Villa in summer 2019 and she was a member of the team which won the FA Women’s Championship on a points-per-game basis in 2019/2020. Haigh made 14 league appearances for The Villans in their title-winning season. Haigh has made 19 top flight appearances for Aston Villa including 18 outings last season as the club avoided an immediate relegation back to the FA Women’s Championship.

Haigh is a hugely important signing for Coventry United. The Red and Greens have the joint-worst defensive record in the FA Women’s Championship this season therefore a player of her experience in the back-line will add real value to Jay Bradford’s squad.

Haigh could go straight into the Coventry United squad for the fixture against London City Lionesses at the Butts Park Arena on Sunday.
