Coventry City will hope they can go through this transfer window without losing any of their key players.

The Sky Blues suffered heavily over the summer, as the club’s two best players from last season were snatched away in big-money moves.

As well as Gustavo Hamer and Viktor Gyokeres leaving, Coventry also saw several other players depart, and that meant Mark Robins had to do some reshuffling in his squad.

The busy summer seemed to have an effect on the team, as they made a poor start to the campaign, but in recent weeks that has all changed as the club now embarks on another strong end to the season.

Coventry’s improvement in results has coincided with the return of midfielder Callum O’Hare, but that has now resulted in the player being of interest to Championship rivals.

Southampton and Leicester City are interested in Callum O’Hare

According to Daily Mail reporter Tom Collomosse, Southampton and Leicester City are among the clubs interested in signing Coventry City star Callum O’Hare.

Collomosse claims that as well as the two Championship teams being interested in the midfielder, Premier League side Burnley are also keen.

O’Hare is out of contract in the summer and hasn’t been offered a new deal by the Sky Blues yet. Collomosse hasn’t ruled out a move happening this move, but states something happening in the summer feels like a better time for everyone involved.

The 25-year-old missed part of the season through injury, but since returning, he has helped Coventry climb back up the table and into play-off contention.

It’s unclear at this present time whether O’Hare will move this month or wait until the summer, but either way he should prioritise a move to Southampton over Leicester.

Callum O’Hare should move to Southampton over Leicester

Coventry will no doubt want to and be planning to keep hold of Callum O’Hare beyond this month at the very least.

But given he is out of contract in the summer, the Sky Blues find themselves in a very awkward situation, as if he doesn’t leave the club between now and February 1st, unless a new deal is agreed, he will walk away for nothing in the summer.

So, O’Hare holds all the cards at this moment in time, and if he is planning on leaving the CBS Arena, he needs to make a move to Southampton more of a priority than joining Leicester City.

The 25-year-old missed a large chunk of this season through injury, but since returning, he has made a big difference in the club’s campaign, as they’ve gone from relegation contenders to play-off hopefuls.

O’Hare has started eight of the 15 Championship games he has featured in, averaging 56 minutes per game. The attacking midfielder has already found himself being named in team of the week twice, as he’s got five goals and one assist to his name. O’Hare has so far got an expected goal rate of 2.42 and an expected assist rate of 1.03, as per SofaScore.com.

The Coventry man has a scoring frequency of 167 minutes, with him averaging 0.3 goals per game, as he’s had 1.5 shots per game, with 0.8 being on target. O’Hare has a goal conversion rate of 22%, while he has created one big chance as well as picking up 1.3 key passes, as he’s got an 87% pass accuracy per game, as per SofaScore.com.

The midfielder is starting to come into his own at Coventry, but it may be that he wants a new challenge at some point, and if that is the case, then joining the Saints would be a good move.

This is because he would join a side that is playing some very lovely, possession-based attacking football, and it is under a manager that does seem to get the best out of his attacking players.

Furthermore, Southampton are in need of adding a proper number 10 to their side, as currently Russell Martin keeps chopping and changing who operates there. O’Hare would be a very good addition and one you could see working out at Southampton, given the players he would be playing with.

While at Leicester, they have many attacking options at their disposal, and with them likely to be promoted to the Premier League, that will probably increase. So, between the two clubs, O’Hare seems better suited to Southampton in terms of playing style and the fact that he will likely play more.
