Callum O’Hare is expected to depart Coventry City at the end of the season.

According to Coventry Live, the midfielder has declined a contract offer from the Championship side.

The 25-year-old’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the campaign, meaning he will be free to leave the club for nothing in the summer.

This will come as a big blow to Mark Robins’ side given his importance to the first team squad at the CBS Arena.

O’Hare made a recovery from injury earlier this season, and has since featured 25 times for the team in the league, contributing six goals and three assists (all stats from Fbref).

The Sky Blues are set to miss out on retaining O’Hare beyond this season, despite having offered the player a new deal.

His contract expires this summer, meaning he will be a free agent once his deal runs out on 30 June.

Coventry have until then to persuade O’Hare otherwise, but it is looking unlikely that he will renew his contract with the second division team.

Leicester City have previously been linked with a move for the midfielder, who is understood to be prioritising a move to the Premier League this summer.

The Foxes are third in the table, and are seeking a place back in the top flight for next season.

Robins’ side is also competing for promotion to the top division, which could help convince him to remain with the club.

Coventry lost the play-off final last year, missing out on top flight football with a penalty shootout defeat to Luton Town.

O’Hare was absent for the play-offs through injury, not returning to the squad until 25 October.

Callum O'Hare's importance to Coventry

Since returning from injury, he has reasserted himself as one of the most important parts of the first team squad.

If the club can go one step further and earn a place in the Premier League, then perhaps their chances of keeping O’Hare will increase.

But their hopes of a top six finish took a blow last Monday as the team lost 2-1 to rivals Cardiff City, leaving the side four points adrift of sixth place Norwich City, albeit with a game in hand.

O’Hare will be crucial to overturning that four point deficit to the Canaries in their final seven league games.

Coventry will also be hoping to reach their second ever FA Cup final, having earned a trip to Wembley Stadium to face Manchester United in the semi-final later this month.

O’Hare’s departure would be massive blow for Coventry

Coventry lost two key players last summer in Gustavo Hamer and Viktor Gyokeres, which hurt their start to the season.

But the club recovered well in the second half of the campaign and are now back in the mix for the top six.

Their recovery has been helped in large part due to O’Hare returning to full fitness, so losing him again would be a massive blow.

O’Hare’s departure would be even worse than Hamer and Gyokeres’ exits, as they at least cashed in on those two players and earned massive fees, whereas they will lose the midfielder for nothing this summer without a contract extension.
