The Sky Blues are looking to bring in the Spaniard from their former Championship rivals.

Luton Town midfielder Lamine Fanne is a player of interest to Coventry City, according to reports, although they aren't the only ones looking at the 21-year-old.

Frank Lampard has a number of good options to pick from in his former position of central midfield. With Ben Sheaf, Matt Grimes and Jack Rudoni as the preferred middle trio, they have one of the best combinations in the Championship in this area of the pitch.

Still, there's no harm in looking to improve an area of already existing strength. To do this, they are looking to poach Fanne from their old league rivals Luton.

According to journalist Rudy Galetti, Coventry are among five teams that are interested in signing the Hatters' youngster, who only arrived at Kenilworth Road less than a year ago from Swedish club AIK.

The other clubs that are also reported to be in the hunt for the midfielder are Basaksehir of Turkey, Italian duo Cremonese and Empoli, as well as Belgian champions Union Saint-Gilloise.

Coventry target Luton Town midfielder Lamine Fanne

Fanne was loaned back to AIK last summer immediately after he joined Town for an initial £3.7 million that could rise to £5 million, spending the first half of the 2024/25 campaign away from the side that were then managed by Rob Edwards.

Upon his return to the UK, the combative Spaniard didn't get all that much game-time, especially compared to his time with AIK, for whom he provided four assists in 20 appearances.

He did get more opportunities down the back end of the term under Matt Bloomfield, but he wasn't able to help Luton survive the drop.

Fanne came off the bench in Luton's opening League One game of the 2025-26 season - a tight 1-0 win against newly promoted AFC Wimbledon.

As per Galetti, Bloomfield and co see the 21-year-old as a "key part" of the club's future and are therefore reluctant to let him leave this summer.

Coventry's City interest in Luton Town midfielder comes as a slight surprise

The most likely of Coventry's starting midfielders to leave this summer is Rudoni.

He has been linked with a move to St. James' Park to join Newcastle United, although rumours of a move to Tyneside have quietened down in recent times.

Fanne wouldn't be a natural option to fill the boots of the 24-year-old if he were to leave. Rudoni offers a strong goal threat, whereas the six-foot-one Luton player's best strengths lie at the other end of the pitch, breaking up attacks and winning the ball back.
