Coventry City boss Frank Lampard admits youngster Kai Andrews has given him plenty to think about after impressing in pre-season.
The 18-year-old has attracted interest from League One and some Championship clubs this summer, who are keen to sign the attacker on loan.
But Andrews has established himself in the first-team picture during pre-season and played the entirety of Coventry’s 2-0 pre-season friendly win over Bristol Rovers on Wednesday, impressing Lampard, who praised his energy, athleticism and mentality.
Speaking after the game, Lampard said: “He’s integrated already. That’s where we’re at. We’ll see, and there are a lot of weeks to go, but the way he has trained, the way he has come back. Some young players stick out because they have not just talent, but attitude.
“He has a great attitude. Kai has that. You can work with him, because he wants to get better. Some players you have to explain that to them that every day matters, but with Kai you don’t.
“He’s going to be a big player for Coventry, in my opinion. I’ve enjoyed working with him. We’ll see [about the future], but at the moment he’s in our squad and, as you can see at Bristol Rovers, he plays 90 minutes and he looks as though he could’ve played another 90 minutes. It’s a great start.”
Meanwhile, the Championship side are in line for a windfall from former striker Viktor Gyokeres’ expected move to Arsenal.
They have already moved to sign defenders Kaine Kesler-Hayden from Aston Villa and Miguel Ángel Brau on a free transfer, and are also believed to be close to completing the signing of goalkeeper Carl Rushworth from Brighton on loan.
They would also like to bolster their attack before the transfer window closes.
But duo Jack Rudoni and Milan van Ewijk continue to attract interest from other clubs.
