After a lot of toing and froing, FC Schalke 04’s opponents for the first round of the DFB-Pokal have been determined: On 3 November, the Royal Blues will face 1. FC Schweinfurt 05, as confirmed by the DFB on Tuesday, 27 October.

An independent court of arbitration has confirmed the legitimacy of the BFV (Bavarian Football Association) registering Schweinfurt to participate in the 2020/2021 DFB-Pokal. The arbitration award was made on Tuesday evening, following a hearing in Nuremberg the day before. S04’s game against the Regionalliga side will be played in the VELTINS-Arena, kicking off at 16:30 CET.

Initially planned for 13 September, the Knappen’s first-round tie against Schweinfurt was called off at short notice after Türkgücü München had successfully launched an appeal with Munich’s first district court against the BFV’s decision to register Schweinfurt for the competition.

The DFB-Pokal’s administration subsequently called off the game, with reference to the not-yet legally binding decision of Munich’s district court. On 8 October, the game was rescheduled for the 3 or 4 November, before the actual opposition had been determined.

Türkgücü had appealed on the basis that Bavaria’s best amateur team gets a place in the first-round draw and at the time of the draw in June they were the highest-ranked side. However, the then Regionalliga Bayern league leaders had already been registered for promotion to the 3. Liga, meaning the BFV named Schweinfurt as their representative.

Türkgücü München did indeed move up to the third division and the BFV removed all of their results from the Regionalliga table.
