Inter Milan are facing an ever-worsening injury crisis after yesterday’s 1-1 Serie A draw away to Napoli.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Inter had already been dealing with a slew of problematic injuries before yesterday’s top-of-the-table showdown with Napoli.

A big part of the problem for Inter was that three of the injuries were in the wingback roles.

That left Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi with just two senior players on the flanks. Federico Dimarco and Denzel Dumfries.

For this reason, there would hardly be a player Inzaghi would have less wanted to see forced off with injury than one of the wingbacks.

However, that is exactly what happened. Dimarco had to leave the pitch with a thigh problem shortly after the start of the second half.

After the match, Federico Dimarco admitted that he had been dealing with the issue during the first half, but had tried to play through it.

And in the meantime, midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu also had to come off at the same time. This came after he had taken a blow to the thigh during the first half.

Calhanoglu’s injury is certainly not a welcome development. But Dimarco’s injury is a particularly thorny one for Inzaghi.

The Inter coach can now select from a grand total of one wingback – Denzel Dumfries – out of the five in the squad.

If Dimarco cannot recover in time for this week’s Champions League clash with Feyenoord, the Nerazzurri coach will need to find a solution to cover both sides of the pitch.
