This Sunday Manchester City will take on Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium. The Premier League fixture will see two title rivals face off. While the match isn’t a title decider by any stretch it is still a big game. But after having an interrupted start to this season could Sunday’s clash with Mikel Arteta’s side be the game to kickstart Phil Foden’s season?

After a busy summer with England Foden has eased his way into the new campaign. He also went down with an illness earlier this season which has seen him miss several games and international duty as he recovered from the ailment. But against Inter Milan on Wednesday evening there were signs that Foden is ready to make his mark on this season.

After coming on at halftime of City’s scoreless draw with Simone Inzaghi’s side Foden made an immediate impact. He almost scored straight after the interval. The movement and technical ability of Foden were on full display as the signs were there that he was returning to his best. While he didn’t score against Inter, he had a key role in City’s second-half dominance. Given that Arsenal defends similarly to Inter, Sunday’s game could be the ideal game to kickstart Phil Foden’s season.

It would be no surprise to see Mikel Arteta’s side employ a low defensive block against City on Sunday. It’s a tactic they employed last season at the Etihad. If they do how City break down Arsenal’s defence could decide the game. Phil Foden may have a key role to play for the world champions. Foden thrives in the half spaces that are likely to be on offer on Sunday. If he is at his best he could be the player to decide Sunday’s match.

Sunday’s clash with Arsenal could be the game to kickstart Phil Foden’s season. It’s a big occasion and one that generally brings out the best in the best players. Phil Foden is one of those and the Etihad Stadium against a title rivals may be the ideal stage for Foden to make his first impact of the 24/25 season.
