Could Rangers bring back Leon Balogun as well as Mick Beale? | OneFootball

Rangers could be in line for a shock return of Leon Balogun to Ibrox if Michael Beale becomes manager, following Rangers closing in on the Queens Park Rangers manager.

The 34-year old Nigeria defender, an extremely popular and well-liked stopper, was a huge regret from Rangers fans to lose after the club let him go at the end of his contract, for Michael Beale’s QPR to gleefully snap up a lucrative free agent in the form of the former Bremen man.

But Balogun absolutely loved his time in Govan, a bit like his current boss did, and if Beale was to head back to Rangers, there’s every chance he’d make a January bid to bring Balogun back north as well, given he’s started 11 matches already this campaign and has become a big part of Beale’s squad.

Cost? Pennies – Balogun wouldn’t cost much, a nominal six-figure sum, and his return would help bring a lot of Beale’s detractors onside and lift a spot of the flack Director of Football Ross Wilson has copped in letting the Nigerian go.

And we know what the big man brings – pace, power, passion, and a true love for the club. Balogun was taken to fans’ hearts, his only issues being injury-related, and given the defensive crisis to engulf the club throughout October and November, having Balogun at the rear again would be bit of a welcome relief to say the least.

Of course, given all his injury issues, if they came back on his return, then clearly that would prove that with his having had an injury-free spell with QPR, the problem stems at Ibrox somehow.

But this is all conjecture – Beale isn’t yet Rangers manager and Balogun remains very much in London as well.

But bringing the defensive anchor back would definitely help a bit of the mood for sure, given there are absolutely no defenders worth much left fit at Rangers right now.

Furthermore, Leon Balogun has still got plenty of space in his very blue pocket to stick any Japanese players who might ply their trade in the east of Glasgow…
