Could Lille’s Angel Gomes feature against Aston Villa?

In late March, Angel Gomes (23) suffered a hamstring injury in training. It had been thought that the England youth international would miss the next three weeks of action for Lille OSC, however, L’Équipe have provided a positive update on his recovery.

The three-week absence would see Gomes miss some crucial games for Lille, including Friday’s encounter against Olympique de Marseille, as well as potentially both legs of their UEFA Europa Conference League quarter-final against Premier League side Aston Villa.

It had been expected – at the very least – that he would miss the first leg at Villa Park on Thursday 11th April, however, there is perhaps now a glimmer of hope for Gomes and Les Dogues. L’Équipe have reported that Gomes has resumed individual training following the hamstring injury. Whilst he is not expected to play a part against Marseille on Friday, there is now seemingly a very real chance that he will be fit enough to face Aston Villa, which would be a big boost for Lille.
