Hull City would have been hoping to achieve a great deal of success in the opening stages of the 2022/23 campaign after signing a plethora of players in the summer transfer window.

However, since securing a 3-2 victory over Coventry City at the end of August, the Tigers have experienced a worrying dip in form.

Defeats to Queens Park Rangers, Sheffield United, Stoke City and Swansea City have resulted in Hull slipping to 20th in the Championship standings.

Set to make their return to action on September 30th, Hull will be desperate to provide their supporters with something to shout about in their showdown with Luton Town at the MKM Stadium.

With Shota Arveladze expected to still be in charge of the club for this particular fixture despite the underwhelming nature of his side’s recent performances, it will be interesting to see whether he is able to turn things around.

Making reference to the overall match-day experience, FLW’s Hull City fan pundit Ant Northgraves has admitted that although the build up to games used to be much better before the Covid-19 pandemic, there is still plenty of things to keep supporters entertained.

Speaking to FLW, Ant said: “The match-day experience seems okay to me, perhaps the build up to the actual kick-off itself could be improved, it used to be so much better but since returning from Covid it doesn’t seem to have really got the same effect as it used to.

“But there’s a lot of focus on getting local bands in and a lot of stuff for the younger generation to do which is important considering how outcast they were in the previous regime.

“Free tickets, face painting, you can play FIFA in the concourse and you can have shots outside of the stadium at goal and things like that.

“So in terms of how it caters for families and kids it seems to be very good but perhaps for the more steadfast football fan, the more atmospheric, boisterous fans that perhaps want a bit more of that classic match-day experience, maybe it lacks a little bit in that sense.

“But I suppose it is quite hard to find that balance between what is good for all involved so minor adjustments I think will probably fix any potential issue that anybody will have with the experience of match-days.”

The Verdict

With the restrictions put in place due to the pandemic, club’s up and down the country have been limited in what they are able to provide in terms of entertainment.

Given that Hull currently provide younger supporters with different activities to get involved before matches, they will be hoping to retain this particular part of their fan-base by delivering the goods on the pitch.

Having provided financial support in the transfer window, Hull owner Acun Ilicali will be hoping to witness an improvement in performance levels over the course of the coming months.

If the Tigers fail to deliver the goods after the international break, it wouldn’t be at all surprising if a decision is made regarding Arveladze’s future.
