Costa Rica, Canada secure semifinal berths in W Futsal Championship

MIAMI – The 2025 Concacaf W Futsal Championship continued Thursday with the third day of the Group Stage at the Domo Polideportivo in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
Costa Rica and Canada secured the top two spots in Group B and a place in the semifinals. In Group A, Mexico defeated Panama to decide the seeding among the top two while hosts Guatemala earned its first win.
The top two teams in each group advance to Saturday’s semifinals. The two finalists will represent Concacaf at the inaugural FIFA Futsal Women's World Cup.
Group A
Panama 1, Mexico 2
Mexico won the battle for first place in Group A with a 2-1 victory against Panama. Both nations qualified for the W Futsal Championship semifinals on Wednesday, with this direct encounter deciding the first and second seeds in the group.
Mexico opened the scoring in the 12’ by way of Itzel Cruz. Panama pulled one back through a right-footed shot from Gloria Saenz in the 23’.
Ariatna Dorantes delivered the group-winning goal in the 38’ to secure Mexico’s place at the top of the table.
Guatemala 9, Cuba 1
Guatemala exited the tournament with a 9-1 victory, its first of the tournament, over Cuba to finish third in Group A.
Katherine Garzaro placed the hosts in front with a shot outside the box in the 5’. Grecia Santizo doubled the lead for Las Chapinas in the 11’.
Thaily Gómez extended Guatemala’s lead by three in the 15’, driving through the middle of the court before shooting with her right foot. Danyssa Domínguez penned her name on the scoresheet in the 17’ to send the hosts up by four at the half.
Yarianna Zunzunequi scored for Cuba in the 25’ to cut the deficit in the second period.
Santizo added a fifth for Guatemala in the 30’ before Domínguez collected her brace in the 33’. Santizo completed her hat-trick in the 34’ and increased her tally further in the 38’.
Allison Chávez struck on target from deep in her own half in the final minute to put a bow on the victory.
Group B
Costa Rica 6, Honduras 0
Costa Rica qualified to the 2025 Concacaf Futsal Championship Semifinals with a 6-nil win against Honduras to secure a top two spot in Group B.
Karol Arias opened the scoring in the 1’. A long right-footed hit by Roxiny Lopez in the 12’ doubled the lead for Las Ticas. A corner kick taken by Mariela Solis found Ariel Barquero in the 19’ for the third goal.
Costa Rica didn’t slow down in the second period, with Solis striking the fourth goal in the 29’. Arias got her brace in the 32’ before Fabiola Ramirez closed the scoring in the 34’.
United States 1, Canada 3
Canada earned a 3-1 victory over the United States to claim the final spot in the semifinals.
Stephanie-Ann Dadalie struck first for Canada in the 4’, but Paige Pierson tied for the USA in the 24’.
Goals from Yerlin Varela in the 25’ and Erica Hindmarsh in the 28’ led Canada to victory and lifted the nation over its North American rival into the top two in Group B.
