AC Milan are facing a crucial few weeks regarding the planning for next season, and there are two decisions above all that will guide the future.

As this morning’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via MilanPress) reports, Milan’s process can be outlined in three steps: first a sporting director must be hired, then a head coach, and then the squad must be evaluated.

There are 360-degree evaluations underway at present. It is no coincidence that there have already been big changes, for example, from the point of view of communication with the arrival of Francesca Montini as Chief Brand Officer.

The missing piece that needs to be filled as soon as possible is that of the sporting director who however must tick specific boxes: a knowledge of Serie A, a good body of work and the ability to work in a group with Giorgio Furlani, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Geoffrey Moncada an the new coach.

Both the Senior Advisor and the current technical director will still be at the centre of Milan’s planning according to the newspaper, with Furlani then coordinating the different areas and ultimately having the final say.

The turning point regarding the new director is expected in April, as well as that for the renewals that are blocked awaiting his arrival. Mike Maignan and Christian Pulisic are ready to sign once the new man gives their approval, with Theo Hernandez’s situation unknown.

Much will depend on the evaluation of the current squad by the new director and coach. Speaking of which, Sergio Conceicao has the club’s full trust for now, but it is difficult to imagine him remaining beyond the end of the season.
