The injuries to Mike Maignan and Theo Hernandez have left AC Milan with a sour taste after the international break, but there is good news on Sandro Tonali.

Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) reports that Tonali left for the training camp with the Italian national team Coverciano but he was not able to do a single workout with the team due to a muscle problem, which caused some anxiety.

However, Tonali is absolutely fine and is back in training with his team-mates at Milanello, and he is expected to start against Empoli despite the fact that games against Chelsea, Juventus and again Chelsea again follow.

The Rossoneri coach is currently expected to field the Tonali-Bennacer double pivot from the start but due to the injuries and above all the busy schedule, Pioli will have to rotate his midfielders well. There is Rade Krunic who is back from injury now plus Tommaso Pobega who did play for Italy over the break, while we are still waiting for signs from Aster Vranckx.

Last year, after seven league matches, Sandro Tonali had two league goals after netting against Cagliari and Atalanta. Today he is on zero and that is not a problem with the likes of Giroud and Leao firing, but goals from all departments are crucial as seen in the run-in for last year’s Scudetto.
