AC Milan head south to the capital on Thursday with a simple mission: win the game against Roma to give themselves a chance of reaching the Europa League quarter-finals.

This morning’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) speaks about a fundamental crossroads that is arriving for the season of both teams and how they will be judged.

Speaking of fundamental, Stefano Pioli can smile because he will get two key men back for the match at the Stadio Olimpico, something he hopes will boost the chances of a comeback victory.

Yesterday at Milanello goalkeeper Mike Maignan trained with the rest of the group after missing the trip to face Sassuolo on Saturday due to fatigue. The Frenchman will be back between the posts after what was seemingly just workload management.

The second bit of good news is that Malick Thiaw has not suffered any muscle problem, despite being in obvious pain and clutching his hamstring towards the end of the 3-3 draw at the Mapei Stadium a few days ago.

However, the biggest boost is that Pioli can count on Fikayo Tomori, one of the most important players in the defensive department. Tomori had missed the first leg due to suspension, and he should play alongside Matteo Gabbia.

Simon Kjaer, however, is expected to miss both the match against Roma and the derby against Inter. He has not suffered a serious muscle issue, but will need to observe a period of rest.
