For AC Milan fans, the 2023/24 season was one to forget quickly, and they would not be frowned at for wishing the same already this season. Winless in their first three games, things need to change quickly, especially after an expensive summer.

After the Scudetto-winning season, things changed at Milan. Expectations rose once again, and rightly so. Key players have remained since, and barring the Champions League run of the 2022/23 season, the club have regressed.

Finishing second last season was not a case of finishing behind Inter, but rather finishing ahead of everyone else. Of course, there could be some solace in a second-place finish. However, there was no title challenge, their city rivals ran away with the league early on, and everyone else played catch-up.

Whilst key players have remained at the club, there are question marks about them – namely Theo Hernandez and Rafael Leao, both who have been topics of controversy so far this season. Additions arrived in the summer, but question marks are in place about some already.

As Corriere dello Sport (via Milan News) writes, there was a €100 million summer, and so far, there is nothing to show for it. The Rossoneri boast the third most expensive squad in Italy, and there is nothing to justify that cost at present.

Of course, there is an embedding process, and the season is far from over. However, pressure is already on the Diavolo, and it needs to make diamonds in this instance.
